Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts – These will be the base of your dish, providing lean protein and a tender texture.
  • Salt and pepper – To season the chicken breasts and enhance the natural flavors.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil – For browning the chicken and adding richness to the dish.
  • 1 medium onion chopped – Adds flavor and depth to the gravy.
  • 3 cloves garlic minced – For a fragrant, savory kick in the gravy.

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups chicken broth – This is the base of your gravy and provides that comforting savory flavor.
  • 1 cup heavy cream – Adds richness and smoothness to the gravy.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour – To help thicken the gravy and give it a silky texture.
  • 1 teaspoon thyme – Adds an earthy aromatic note to the gravy.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika – For a subtle smoky flavor that complements the dish.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder – For an extra punch of garlic flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce – For a touch of umami and depth.

For the Rice:

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice – The perfect rice for this dish; fluffy and absorbs the gravy beautifully.
  • 2 cups water – To cook the rice.
  • 1 tablespoon butter – To make the rice extra fluffy and flavorful.

Instructions

Step 1: Sear the Chicken

  • Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and seasoning blend.
  • Cook in a hot skillet with olive oil for 6-7 min per side, until golden and the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Gravy

  • Sauté onions for 2-3 minutes, then add garlic for 30 seconds.
  • Create a roux by adding flour and cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add liquids: Pour in chicken broth, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and paprika. Simmer for 4 minutes, thickening the gravy.

Step 3: Cook the Rice

  • Rinse rice, and cook in salted water for about 15 minutes until soft. Fluff with a fork.

Step 4: Simmer the Chicken

  • Combine the chicken with gravy in the skillet. Let it simmer for 5 minutes, ensuring the chicken is tender and coated with gravy.

Step 5: Serve

  • Plate the rice, top with chicken, and drizzle with gravy. Optionally, garnish with parsley or green onions.
